Vervuiling en afval van producten is de belangrijkste reden voor dit boek.
In mijn werk als industrieel ontwerper heb ik veel producten succesvol op de markt gezet. Ik heb internationaal deze ontwerpen begeleid naar productie voor een goede prijs, zodat het product een commercieel succes is en winstgevend voor de producenten en hun toeleveranciers.
Desondanks ben ik me bewust van de grote impact van deze producten na gebruik hun invloed op het milieu tijdens de complete levenscyclus. Dit bewustzijn motiveert me om het probleem te analyseren, om de verschillende oplossingen hiervoor te leren en deze te combineren tot richtlijnen voor industrieel ontwerpers.
Deze richtlijnen moeten antwoorden geven op de vraag hoe ze de verontreiniging en afval kunnen reduceren. Het is een essentieel onderdeel van het ontwerp- en ontwikkelproces, omdat het ons instaat stelt invloed uit te oefenen op de verontreiniging gedurende de gehele levenscyclus van het product. En omdat deze producten in grote aantallen geproduceerd kunnen worden kan iedere kleine verbetering op dit vlak een grote bijdrage leveren.
De belangrijkste vraag voor dit boek is dan ook:
hoe kunnen industrieel ontwerpers duurzaamheid in hun ontwikkelproces voor nieuwe producten en services integreren?
Development process
Since 1997 my profession is to create products from first concept to production.
I have a great sense of style, eye and knowledge for detailing to manufacturing in plastic, steel, aluminium and PCB design and dedication to validate prototypes during development to production.
The common quote “first time right” is related to this, but confuses in a way that the developer would understand that the first idea is always the best without looking for other options. First time right used for the development process is to indicate not to continue the process based on wrong or unproved solutions, but to fix the solutions in a correct way.

This is not the start and also not the flavor on the development. It’s a continue influence in all different stages of the process. It has the influence on the concept in terms of style, use and ergonomics but also to protect the whole portfolio of products and expectations from the market. In my experience if styling is involved on the right moment in the process it will gain results from the global concept to details for production.
